Film Review – Nollywood Babylon.

I watched “Nollywood Babylon” tonight, an interesting and surprising documentary about the Nigerian film industry, one of the most vibrant in the world, albeit with films whose average budgets hover around $15,000.

Truth be told, it was inspiring to see these largely self-taught but insanely dedicated filmmakers succeed at their craft through great storytelling skills, regardless of the lack of a budget, equipment etc.  I think every student of film should watch this documentary — there’s a lot to be learned about what movies really mean to people as an art form, and also what can be done in filmmaking with minimal resources.
