Motion Picture Delivery Requirements

One of the films I worked on is being “delivered” to a distributor this week.

It never ceases to amaze me how detailed and complicated the technical and legal aspects of the delivery process can be in film and television, after a contract is signed, but well before an audience ever sees it…  I understand that it has to be that way, for many valid reasons, but that doesn’t make it less arduous for the participants.

SAFETY TIP – If you are producing your first indie film, get a hold of a film studio’s delivery requirements NOW, and distribute it to your production team.  That way, you will all know and appreciate the “final destination” you have to get to as you shoot the film, and you will not make expensive financial and technical mistakes that only need to be fixed later, after you thought post production was completely done.
